On my most recent post, I talked about our new flower bed. I am pleased and proud to say that the mulch went on today. It was a day of firsts for me. My first time hooking (and unhooking) a trailer to our Tahoe, it may not seem like a big deal to anyone, however each first I tackle is really exciting. I was thinking back to when I realized my friend Pat was and is quite the gardener. I remember thinking that could never be me, it’s true, I loved seeing beautiful things growing in yards, it never dawned on me that I could have a hand in that, and that it could be my own yard. Well over the years, with Pat’s and many other friends along the way, I have become “the accidental gardener”. Make no mistake, I have no time for plants that need a lot of tending and can’t stand on their own merit, so to speak….however hardy, no nonsense plants I can really appreciate. So to that end, today was mulching day for the new flower bed, and I am proud to say it is finished. Although having done this for awhile either on purpose or by accident I know that a gardeners work/enjoyment is never done.
Tonight I finished getting the grass out of the flower bed by the driveway that we started a mere….4 weeks ago. With weather and devoted time, it has been challenging to say the least. So to the beat of the music coming from the Triangle Park Concert, I forged ahead to finish pulling out the grass and weeds that were left. I am very happy to report that it has the plants which I got from a neighbor down the street, back in April, now in the ground, watered and getting used to their new home. So tomorrow, onward and upward, I am going to pick up mulch for that flower bed and then that portion will be done. To say I am proud is an understatement. I am looking forward to seeing the flowers grow and change our landscape…for the better.

This past Sunday, I was given the opportunity to be on the Wisconsin Public Television Auction for the Wisconsin Bed & Breakfast Association. I thought, hey that sounds like fun, so I accepted the challenge. When our administrator Kris called me, I teased her and said “so didn’t have any other takers, eh?” She assured me that no she hadn’t, however she thought that I would be a natural for the job. You may remember in one of my earlier posts that I mentioned Gunner’s Great Garage, a newer business here in Manawa. We had the pleasure and privilege of having our June Chamber of Commerce meeting out at Gunner’s. What I am constantly amazed and appreciative of is the passion that people approach their businesses and John Gunnell is no exception to that. He has made his dream a reality and continues to encourage and report on other people reaching and working towards their dreams in the car enthusiasts world as well and we are so blessed that he has chosen Manawa as his business headquarters. Although I have been aware of car enthusiasts for many years, it is only in recent years that I have begun to fully appreciate the passion that they have for their “hobby,” or as I have heard some say, it can be an obsession. John announced at our Chamber meeting that the following event was happening, here are the details. (more…)
We have some musical action happening here in Manawa this Friday evening, June 4th at Smith’s Manawa Steak House. Not only is it Friday evening, featuring the Land and Sea buffet, which is newsworthy in it’s own right. John & Robyne are featuring performer Paula Slow from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. I have seen Paula perform once before and her range and musical selections dabble in varying genre’s. I’ve heard her inspire with a gospel tune and then turn around and sing some Rascal Flats. Come to Smith’s Manawa Steak House this Friday evening, enjoy some dinner and stay for the musical musings of Paula Slow….sure to be a magical time.
