A week or so ago, my daughter Morgan brought me home a sample of a baguette and some news. She relayed to me that there was a newer bakery in the Village of Amherst which specializes in European baked goods and artisan breads and pastries. I tasted the sample of the baguette that she said “I risked my life to bring you that sample Mom”, appreciating the sense of drama that lends to the story, I was not disappointed. I decided today was the day, that I would venture the mere 30 minutes to Amherst and see for myself. The Village Bakery is located in the heart of Amherst, a quaint and unassuming artisan village. I walked in and was immediately met by the wonderful smell of yeast and butter and sugar, a heavenly scent to be sure. I was met by the baker, I wish I had thought to ask his name. He showed me and explained the different types of pastries, and yes, I have tried several since I have been home. A blueberry ginger muffin, wow….a fabulous taste and a very tender crumb. He had several types of rye breads and white and whole wheat breads. Their pastries are only offered on Saturdays, however the bread alone is reason to visit any day that they are open. Their hours are Tuesday – Saturday 6:00 am – 4:00 pm, Sunday 6:00 am – 1:00 pm. and they are located at 127 N. Main Street in Amherst. So visit New Village Bakery and let me know how you enjoy their bread and pastries! Happy eating!
