I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s, and fizzy beverages were a treat, not the every day occurrence they are now. I mean to tell you, that was a treat to go into Jack’s Grocery in the small town in Washington state where I grew up and go into the walk in cooler and grab a Coke in a glass bottle. Still one of my most vivid memories is when I walked into a store on a road trip and they had the old glass bottles, in a wash tub on ice, in the heat of the summer, oh yeah…it was awesome! Now some of you may be thinking to your self….really? How can anyone be excited about soda, or soda pop, or pop, however and whatever you grew up calling it, there are people out there who feel pretty strongly about their preference. We have a soda maker in New London, they have been there for a year, Dave Talo and John Mathison, the proud owners of Flavor 8 Soda Pop. There are as the name suggests 8 flavors, all caffeine free and made with real sugar, no high fructose corn syrup in their soda. You can choose from orange, grape, cherry, lime, black cherry, fruit punch, blue raspberry, cream soda. I was able to have a tour one evening, a couple of my friends and I were out for a walk and we passed by, my friend Ann had met John already and was able to get Diana & I “in the door” for a tour, they currently offer tours of their facility. We met both John and Dave, and John gave us a tour of their facility and we were able to sample the soda as well, very delicious. One thing that John shared with us, was that because they use real sugar, they don’t have to heavily carbonate their soda to bring out the flavor. So if your looking for some “local flavor”, don’t hesitate to pick up some Flavor 8 Soda Pop at any one of the stores currently carrying it. Check out their website at http://flavor8bottling.com/index.html for a list of stores near you.
