Leapin’ Leprechauns

Monday, February 28th, 2011

It is that time of year again to celebrate the Irish heritage in New London. An entire calendar of events is planned for March 14th thru the 19th, beginning with the 14th, when Leprechauns change the name of the City to New Dublin for the week, you can see them appear at different locations around the City, including in Northport, which will be named North Dublin for the week. Perhaps you’d be more inclined to celebrate “Hooligan Day” on Tuesday and enjoy a tastey plate of corned beef and cabbage at various local eateries around the New Dublin area. On Wednesday, Irish Caroling will be featured at St. Joseph residence and Franklin Park apartments, song sheets are provided and it begins at 5 p.m. in the lobby of St. Joseph. On Thursday March 17th at the New London High School Auditorium there will be Irish Entertainment, featuring the songs, dances and infectious irish humor. Admission is free and the public is welcome. On Friday at Crystal Falls Banquet Hall they will be having and Irish Ceili (kay-lee), a traditional gathering of family and friends celebrating music & dance, at 7 p.m. Perhaps you’d like to celebrate in even more of an Irish tradition, bring on Finnegan’s Wake, it begins at Pup’s Irish Pub in Northport at 8 p.m. and travels to different local establishments. You will see plenty of kilts and listen to plenty of Irish humor. It is quite a sight and alot of fun is had by the participants as well as the public every year. Saturday will bring Irish Fest under the big top near Festival Foods in New London from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with entertainment featuring Sheamus Fitzpatrick and Reilly. Entrance fee to Irish Fest is $5 for the entire day. The largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Wisconsin will be held at 1 p.m., including bagpipes and marching bands.
