I recently returned to Jolly Rogers in New London, I have to admit I hadn’t eaten there in awhile, and this is only the second time. I was on my way home from Milwaukee and decided to stop and pick up pizza. The gentleman behind the bar was very nice and he also happened to be the person making our pizza. So I ordered my pizza and I sat at the bar and was able to see him in the kitchen making it. I was really impressed, they have a dough ext-ruder (I think that’s what it’s called) that has various settings and you run the pizza dough through it and continue to thin it out, because we ordered thin crust. The last step in working with the dough was he threw it up in the air, like wow, it was cool to watch. Then, he proceeded to put it on the pan and add our toppings, and then into the oven it went. He came back to the bar and we were talking about their expansion project, they are planning to move the bar into the adjacent building and in fact it will be an Irish Pub (very fitting for a City that holds one of the largest St. Patty’s Day Festivals and parades in the state of Wisconsin), and the previous bar area will be converted to more family dining. They also have a frozen pizza business called “Jolly Bob’s” which is carried in many locations here in Central Wisconsin, and their frozen pizza business will also be in a part of the new building. They will also be offering outdoor dining by the river, which will be really great, very serene to be sitting near the water enjoying a meal with friends and family. Of course they are known for their pizza, but are not just a one trick pony. They also offer pastas, homemade calzones, sandwiches, burgers, wings and you can get take out, and even delivery of any items on the menu in the New London area. And in the tradition of “Man vs Food”, they have a 26″ pizza challenge, if you can eat one 26″one topping pizza by yourself in 1 hour, you can win $100 and get your picture on the wall of fame….that my friend’s is a lot of pizza no matter which way you slice it. He also told me of a story of a local Dr. who had climbed Mt. Everest and in one of his blog posts stated he was really craving a bacon cheeseburger pizza from Jolly Rogers, now that is customer loyalty personified. So next time your in the New London are, or have a hankerin’ for a good pizza, stop on in to Jolly Rogers located at 220 N. Water St. or call them at 920-982-2333 www.jollyrogerspizzeria.com.
